A totally forgotten classic. Kids, before there was Limp, Korn, Papa Roach, and lots more rap/rock mooks that won't be remembered, there was Urban Dance Squad, the original rap/rock mook band band to be thrown away. And unjustly so, I might add.1989. Yes, a long time ago. Paul McCartney released Flowers in the Dirt, Roxette was hot, Bring the Noise was the shit, and my grandmother was still alive. Cool. Five blissed out hippie hoppers from Amsterdam who were all freaky outcast dudes. These guys played rock, soul, blues, reggae, hip hop, downbeat- ALL AT THE SAME TIME. HELLO!. No one was doing it then, and no one does it now, except for the UDS. So asleep at the wheel was american music at this time, we had to go to freakin Europe to find this jazzed out hippie rock turntable fest. Yikes. Belgium. Who was big in Belgium? ummm..... um..... Marmalade (who? exactly.) Fast Lane rocks out , then they bring it down with No Kid, a fave. Then the radio/MTV thing, Deeper Shade of Soul. Ah, one you might know. After that is a free for all rock and hip hop love fest, with a few odes to good ole beelzebubb thrown in to keep mom and dad honest. Do you remember Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers? You know, all that throwback, flowery hiphop? Well, this flowers over towards the rock side, but is just as good as anything those bands put out in the same time period. 1988-1992 is kind of a lost time in music, totally represented by hair metal, and totally eclipsed by the onset of grunge and gangsta, but there are artists who are defininetly NOT to be missed. I mean come on, it'll remind of twelfth grade, and anything that does that is alright by me. Do yourself a favor and check it out yo!
