i might be out of line here.. but it really seems to me that bands have taken TOOLs formula for music and only half-assed thier way through it (including a perfect circle). TOOL is the only (and im assuming that TOOL is nu-metal-ish) nu-metal band that i can really stand. Maybe a few tracks from System of a Down, but thats cause thier lead singer looks like Frank Zappa.

Perhaps sir, but whereas I've lost love of System of a Down for abandoning a more conscious lyrical format to mindlessly "Bush Is Bad!", you have perhaps not given Sepultura/Soulfly a chance. Max Cavalera has done excellently in fusing all sorts of world music into nu-metal, whether from his own native Brazil, Jamaica, Turkey... You name it, I believe he may have tried.

Tool seems to be this generations Zepplin, Floyd and even though i dont like them, Rush. The songs seem to be more like compositions and they are a mile ahead of anyone else that is trying to copy them. I just saw them live last month for probably the 6th time. The show really focused on the new album ( like most bands w/ a new album out) but it was hard to classify whether or not it was a metal show. There is a lot of depth, dramatic changes and difficulty to their songs to try and pin point any specific genre. To me they are by far the best band out and anyone who has the chance to see them should.

i second that, patient. there are many bands who are also great, but there isn't a single band i can think of that is doing what Tool does, as well as they are. i also highly recommend going to their shows, even though i've heard past tours were better. i'll take what i can get.
