Saw this one too. Not an original, though, a reprint. Still cool though. I already have it, it too, is excellent.

  1. Spencer Owen says How do you place that in the trinity of Head Hunters, Thrust and itself? I'd place it last, despite it making almost all other jazz fusion pale in comparison anyway.

  2. Lester Jonze says I think it's right there with _Headhunters_, for sure, and I put it just ahead of _Thrust_, which to me is a little slick sounding and quiet. I like it all the same, though. For me though, my favorites would have to _Mwandishi_ and _Crossings_, both of which were also there sitting next to this. Both are beyond fusion, really. It totally crosses over into the avant garde, as far as jazz goes. These two are both so into that groove, you know. Then they come with these free form open ended solos all laid over these dense, tribal polyrhythmic patterns, predating that homeland, african mindset we would soon see from folks like Fela, and now everywhere. Get those two man, to me they're both essential.

  4. kat3260 says Herbie Hancock rules. I only own _Headhunters_ so I'm definitely going to make another purchase soon. Which album would you recommend?

  5. Lester Jonze says All of these we've been talking about. That 1969-74 period for Herbie was his peak. Soul, Funk, Jazz, Free Jazz, Avant Garde, Space Funk. It's all in these discs, yo.
