After The King's return from the army in 1960, his manager, "Colonel Tom Parker":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonel_Parker negotiated a seven year, multi picture deal for Elvis. Elvis had previously stated in interviews that he wished to be taken seriously as a film actor.Unfortunately, this would not turn out to be the case. The films Elvis starred in became increasingly formulaic parodies of himself as a musician or otherwise musically inclined character. This severely limited Presley's ability to record substantial music, and made touring and personal musical appearances virtually impossible. Much of the music he did make had been used for his movies. However, staples such as _Can't Help Falling In Love_, and _Viva Las Vegas_ did come from this time period. As the sixties wore on, Elvis became less relevant as an artist as hippies and drugs and free love became the tone of the day. By the end of 1968, Elvis had made 24 movies since his Army discharge. He was one of the top paid actors at the time, but his heart longed for the music, a comeback was in order.
