James Hunter - People Gonna Talk
-
Artist:
Seriously retro 60's soul sound, and a great sound all the way through. The title track strikes me as Sam Cooke meets Jimmy Cliff. Hunter moves on to a number of other 60s-ish soul sounds... but never gets too far away from a Sam Cooke vibe. (And this writer would say that a Sam Cooke vibe is about as good as music gets). Hope you enjoy!

I really hope people listen to this album I think he's alot better than sam cooke
Good stuff - Lee. If you like James Hunter, try Paul Weller or Tad Robinson -->blue eyed soul!!
Love this and will check out the album. He's got a great voice and a love the music.
Isn't this track what used to be referred to as "blue beat?"
Love that you're here. I can't tell you how often you reply with a comment that makes me think "Wow, I've never heard that term... and I'm off on a Google hunt to learn about that part of music history." So a little bit later this morning, I'm now introduced to blue beat and rocksteady music from the 60s.
I spent much of last night listening to everything that this site has for James Hunter. I see how the track "People Gonna Talk" got you to thinking about Blue Beat.
As I listened to Hunter's complete works, I picture him as an artist who is fascinated by a wide range of American soul artists from the 60s. While I think he most often channels Sam Cooke, he also does songs that would fit perfectly into the catalogs of Ray Charles, James Brown and Curtis Mayfield's work with the Impressions. I'll be back to him often I'm sure.
