you lucky lucky man. i saw the mule variations tour in los angeles and the man does not disappoint. i will admit at times i was crying. hopefully you will be sharing that bootleg.
I heard that his show at the Ryman Auditorium sold out in 15-20 minutes. He didn't beat Van Morrison's record of 12 minutes, but, hey, that's still mighty impressive.
Chicago soldout in about five minutes, according to my calculations.
I can't find statistics on it, but here's the time line of me buying these tickets:
6:45am (PST): I called Ticketmaster in Chicago and start burning time in their automated system.
6:50am (PST): I login to the Ticketmaster.com Tom Waits page and start clicking refresh
7:00am (PST): I try to dial into the Tom Waits section of the automated phone system: "All circuits busy due to high call volume, please wait..."
I enter the ticket quantity and the secret passcode through the website: "You have a place in line. Your wait time is 15mins."
The wait time very quickly dwindles... success!! I get the tickets (still nothing on the phone).
7:05am (PST): For shits and giggles, I try to go back into the website and everything was soldout.
7:06am (PST): I dance around my apartment naked with tears of joy in my eyes. I promptly beginning drinking to celebrate.
9am - on: I play drunken Tom Waits covers in a language closely resembling French. This concerns my roommates to some degree... they're lucky they didn't wake up earlier to catch me urinating in the house plants.
