Tom Waits: The Aftermath

Posted over 3 years ago
Greetings all,It's a cold cold night here in San Francisco. I can't think of a betterway to warm up then by snuggling up to glow of the computer monitor towrite yall this note. I'm still recovering from the life-changing pilgrimage I made last weekto see Tom Waits in Chicago. Pure mysterious genius. The man danceswith his influences but never takes them home. He needs not thegimmicks that frame most concert experiences... just enough light tosee the band and his body contorting every which way in between theweathered howls does the rest. The most moving moment came when he played "Day After Tomorrow" for hisfirst encore... a song of a solider trying to make sense of the worldin the midst of war:"You can't denyThe other sideDon't want to dieAny more than we doWhat I'm trying to say,Is don't they prayTo the same God that we do?"There wasn't a dry eye in the house.I am one step closer to dying a complete man.
