Off to the Beach For the Weekend - Any Suggestions?

Posted over 5 years ago
Heading off to Bethany Beach in Delaware for the weekend. Can't wait to get there. I love the beach in the summer, but there is something calming and peaceful about a fall or winter trip to the beach, It is so quiet, all you hear is nature. It also feel s desolate and lonely with all the seasonal shops closed. So what kind of music should be the soundtrack for my weekend my plans so far are:Nick Drake - Pink Moon Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (obvious I know, but God Only Knows come on its great)Girl Talk - Night Ripper (For Saturday Night)Liars - Drums Not DeadRadiohead - OK ComputerMiles Davis - In A Silent WayMazzy Star - So Tonight I Might SeeAnybody got any other ideas?

  3. tybees says Hmmm, calming, peaceful yet desolate and lonely. The contradictions make sense in the way you describe where you're going. I think Murder By Death's ??Like the Exorcist, but More Breakdancing?? would fit. Of course Sigur Ros goes with many moods & circumstances. Damn, I wanna vacation already!

  7. tybees says Lax, a friend recommended them to me a few months ago, and I P2P'd it, so I don't know where you can find it other than that. I've been meaning to actually buy it because it's great. I really don't know much about the band at all. The album I mentioned has very few vocals but it has some really good instrumentals. I'd recommend the tracks "I'm Afraid of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf" (has vocals) and "Those Who Left" (insrumental). I hope you can track 'em down!

  10. ivylander says Try "Domingo," a quietly spiky, ruminative artifact of the late bossa nova period (not jazzy at all) by Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa. Also Sandy Denny's "The North Star Grassman and the Ravens."

  11. Laxman29 says I'm adding the detroit cobras to my Saturday Night list right now - Do the Hot Dog Baby! As far as Domingo I'll find it and try it. Have to admit I'm a little nervous, but hey whats the worst that could happen (I fall in love with Bossa Nova, drop out of society, follow obscure bands around south america and europe, and end up peniless and homeless mumbbling bossa nova tunes to myself). Sandy Denny is a go
