WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Defying the laws of tradition.

So anyway, my old guitarist sends me an email asking if I want to help out with his cousin's music site, Guitarhoo which is essentially a site for guitarists and whatnot. I say sure, then I find out what they want me to do.Essentially, they want me to do some of the podcast hosting duties, and a couple of interviews here and there. I agree, not really knowing what I'm getting myself into. Then I hear who I have to interview.Les. Fucking. Claypool. So now, I'm stoked, and scared shitless, and nervous, and completely unsure of what to do. I'm going through with the interview, which is scheduled for "later this month," but I'm drawing blanks for what to ask him. As I'm a complete virgin about things like this, I know I should play it all safe, but at the same time, the fanboy in me is saying that I should ask him things that he wouldn't normally be asked, to make it a truly cool interview.I want to ask him about Buckethead, about fishing, about Keanu Reeves, all of that, but I'm also afraid of coming off like some total idiot, and him cutting the interview short.I'm sure I'll be fine, when it's all said and done, but I'm still shit scared. The only way I could be more nervous is if it were Bootsie Collins, or Mickey from Ween. Then I'd be acting like a total schoolgirl.Like I'm not already.

  1. TheMangInBlack says Wow, best of luck to you, I'm sure you'll be alright. I would have a little freakout/breakdown if I had to interview Les, he's definitely one of my music-heroes. But I think I would try to ask him about collaborating with Tom Waits. But I agree it would be much much much worse if I had to interview Deaner. I met him once (for about 30 seconds) at a Moistboyz show, he was just hanging out in the crowd before the show and drinking a beer. I kept thinking to myself...."Don't be a fucking idiot fanboy." I walked up, introduced myself and said that I really wanted to shake his hand. He laughed and shook my hand. Awesome, although I think I was still kind of an idiot.

  2. I am says My favorite interview question is asked at the end of the interview it is "Was there a question you wanted me to ask you?" This gets various results some more verbous than others. You are putting the ball in their court. Works great with politicos. Good Luck if it didn't happen already.
