WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

...and as in life, my search ended right where it began

Posted about 1 year ago
Ever hear a tune on the TV, maybe in a commercial, and think "ZOMGZ, I need that song!" Happened to me a little while ago.I'm sitting there watching The Office, when this commercial comes on"Zoinks!" I say to myself. "That's a catchy tune." And so, armed with little knowledge, I set out to find it.It's a vaguely familiar song, which I suppose is what ad campaigns set out to do, but I just can't place it. It sounds old, but probably isn't. If this is one of those new-fangled indie bands, I'll hurt, but I need this song. After a couple of weeks of trying to figure it out, I give up. It's hopeless. Then, one day, while puttering around the house with iTunes on shuffle, it comes up in my playlist.Fuck. Me. I had it all along. The Flaming Lips. The W.A.N.D.You're welcome.

  3. Lamicus says This entire album is outstanding. I was never really into the Lips that much, and was only familiar with "She Don't Use Jelly" from all those years ago...so I d/l'ed this on a whim. I listened to "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song," and pretty much filed it away for a bit, but once I realized that this song was in the collection, I turned off shuffle and played the whole thing. I'm now a convert. Kicking myself now for missing them when they played at Stanley Park here in Vancouver last October, but it was a weeknight and it was rainy and cold that day, so I stayed home. The next day, both papers and every weekly/free rag was raving about the performance, so next time they're in town, I'm not missing out.

  4. dachmo says yeah, from what I have heard they put on a kind of carnival/freakshow wherever they play. There's a great docu out on them called "The Fearless Freaks" that's worth watching if you get a chance. Also if you're not all that familiar with them go and listen to their best album (In My Opinion) "The Soft Bulletin", it's a fantastic event from start to finish.
