I like to listen to as many new albums as I can during the year and then rate and rank them resulting in a year-end list. I don't shoot for a specific number (hence this year there are 32); the list is based on the records I rated high, typically 7.5/10 or above. WHY? I previously asked if it would "ruin the climax to post my Favorite Album of 2008 in advance of the remaining albums" and was told it wouldn't. But I then discovered that what would ruin the climax would be not to post the album or the entire list until January 24th. Did anyone read it? I am not sure. I guess the end of January is already 1/12 into the 2009 music season. Duly noted.

Would it ruin the climax to post my Favorite Album of 2008 in advance of the remaining albums (by like 3 weeks) if it is a no-brainer and is not getting the love I feel appropriate from other listmakers?

Here are the records that I really liked this year. Turns out there were 18.1 The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in AmericaThe Hold Steady top my favorites list for a second year in a row. What can I say that hasn't already been said about America's best rock band? Another great record from Craig Finn, Tad Kubler, and gang.2 Destroyer - Destroyer's RubiesOther than his work with The New Pornographer
