Freaky, Frightening Friday

Today the fright overtakes the funk! Halloween is a top fav celebratory day here in the states - far superior to Arbor Day or Flag Day. I'm not sure how worldwide it's gone. (You "other continent dwellers" could better inform us of that.) But no matter where in the world you live, I will lay you odds that there is one or a handful of Surf bands in your city, state, or country. Surf music IS a worldwide phenomenon. Perhaps you're saying to yourself "What? Surf music is not Scary music." Welllllll then, you haven't heard Satan's Pilgrims. Originating from Portland, Oregon, these guys know how to bang it out. To quote a friend of mine "There's nothing like watching a chubby guy with a Dutch-boy haircut beating the sh%t out of a drumkit." They released a CD in 1998 that has been an October staple for me since it rocketed from the tomb. "Creature Feature" is a ready-made Halloween dance party, chock-a-block with Frugs, Hully-Gullys, Twists and Watusis. Every track is creepily titled to evoke the monster mash mood, such as "Grave Up!" or "Boneshaker" or "Ichabob Crane."
Enjoy the driving, hypnotic tune "Vampiro" while brewing up trouble in your mad scientist lab. Moo hoo hoo ha ha!
Have a great Halloween everyone. Hey, if you are wearing a costume to a party or out treat or treating, post a picture or at least let me know what it is. If you don't have costume this year, let me know what you WOULD like to be wearing. Like, someday I'm gonna make that Glenda the Good Witch of the North costume. Really.
Boo! Happy Fright-Day!

OK, don't say I didn't warn you ... set your face to "stunned".
Sarah Palin finds herself a Maverick.
(Um, that's me on the right.)

I'd advise you to stay away from the Hanoi Hilton.
Are you two headed out grocery shopping or are those halloween costume's you've got on? I can't tell. B^/
Yeah, I'm always running to the grocery store with wings affixed to my jacket. :P
We had our annual safe-Halloween party at church tonight, and this time Melissa and I went political. She went into Sarah Palin character a bit too much, IMHO. I just thought it funny to run around a predominantly Republican group dressed as Maverick.
It didn't work though; Melissa got too many people saying they'd vote for her. Oy!
"Yeah, I'm always running to the grocery store with wings affixed to my jacket. :P"
Well, I thought maybe you could be a big Top Gun fan or something!!
I don't know what all the cool Mormons are wearing these days!!! B^b
Heh ... nor would I.
Actually, I don't think I've ever sat through that entire movie. ::shrug::
Goose dies, Maverick gets the girl... you can imagine.
Dale - That's great. You look very dashing in your leather. Melissa definitely looks enthusiastic. I'm guessing she probably has better qualifications than Sarah to be VP, anyway.
Dach - Top Gun? That's scary! What are YOU wearing to the grocery store for Halloween?
Lady Miss Ian, this is an especially spooky gem of music you have for us...love it!
Halloween was non existent in Greece, but in the UK it's on, very on (costumes and parties and decorations, but I don't think they're trick or treating).
Dale, fantastic!
Hot tune..my son wanted to stay home and give out candy this year, so were gonna try to scare the beejesus out of folks before they get their treats. Is that wrong? I'll post his vampire outfit later..have a good 'un LMI and Mr.LMI.
Hi Anna - Glad the spookiness is catching on in the U of K. Hope all your treats are good ones. ;-)
Hey Cody - Handing out candy is one of my favorite things to do on halloween. I love dressing up and answering the door and scaring the kids. Good luck with your scare tactics. Definitely want to see Count Von Peja.
In Germany, Helloween exists maybe since 10 years - imported from the U.S.. But no trick or treat there, we do that on Carnival, at least in my region.
The clubs use Helloween regularily as a motto for launching Helloween parties, but that's pretty much it. On the streets you don't see it that much.
Your Helloween maps to our Carnival - at least in some regions like around Cologne, or in Souther Germany. Only that it last at least a week.
Here in England I will see what happens tonight. Sadly I didn't get a dress any more, my original idea was a bloody monk. But Hatfield sucks big time regarding second hand stores as it turned out. The next time I'll be prepared better. My U.S. housemate ordered himself a Spartan costume, which turns out to look a little gay. Great stuff, I have been laughing already quite a bit - especially as he evidently wanted to look everything but gayish. Haha.
Herr Hermes - That's a funny story about your housemate's costume. Yah, being a Spartan could be a bit gay-looking. I'm sure a lot of people WERE going for that look, though.
I think you are right about the Carnival similarity. America lacks in any Carnival like public holidays (unless you live in the south). The rest of us love dressing up and frolicking, too, and Halloween is about the only time we get to do it.
He certainly doesn't belong to the type of people, who would go for that look deliberately. But that makes it just more funny for me. By the way, a very cool track - I forgot to mention that before. Just noted their name, I'm gonna have a closer look at them.
We've learned to celebrate Halloween here in Blighty, but since it's about 38 degrees tonight, very few people are trick or treating. Me? I'm down in the lab of No Mercy Hospital, sticking some electrodes to the neck of my latest "experiment". Thanks for the rockin' beats!
Yeah, L.M.I.! That was some sonic spookiness, even a few days after Halloween (when, as you may already know, Mikey Ramone was on the prowl).
