Well, it’s the first day of the actual SXSW 2008 music festival, but in my virtual attendance, I’ve just finished listening to all the bands/artists that would be performing there today (Wednesday, March 12th). Well, ok, not all, but all who had songs posted on the SXSW website. Between 8am and 5pm I listened to 109 songs. Yesterday was 111. Monday 57. What's that make - 277? So, while all those folks in Austin are still queuing up to try to get to see a chosen band, I’m resting my buttocks and chillaxing at home. Sure, I’m a little smug, but don’t think I haven’t suffered, cuz I have. Truly I have. Today’s batch of tunes did not yield as many keepers as yesterday's or the day before. I’ve been using my iTunes rating system and assigning songs Stars as I listen, and only a small percentage of tunes got 4 or 5 stars today, or even 3 stars. Has the feel of old DIY punkness to it. And it’s short. I thought this would make a wonderful soundtrack for a suspense movie.(These folks are playing in the showcase hosted by Steve Reich. Yeah, that Steve Reich – legendary American composer)."The Chocolate Horse – The Caribbean":http://2008.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/56065.htmlThis is very chill, jazzy, kind of 60s lounge-ish. I like the weary vocal style.
