To All You Blooming Flowers....

La Vie En Rose (Extended Mix - Tom Moulton)

This is inspired by a beautiful spring walk amongst the blooming trees and plants, while listening to Ms. Jones sing / attack the classic "La Vie en Rose" in wonderful, late 70s disco stylee. I confess a great love for this song - the extra long intro, the whispered, breathy French, the sparsity of it that gives way to the volcanic vocals. The entire rhythm and pulse of this song build to sonic bloom, then return to their more simplistic roots. Like the way of the greening of Spring.

I've carried with me a description of Grace's style from a very old copy of Rolling Stone's "History of Rock 'n' Roll" (the writer escapes me). She was described as "not so much aiming for a note, as going on a Search and Destroy mission for it."

That long intro is amazing. I think Grace was one of Trevor Horn's finest hours. Great pix in the post, too.

Late Seventies? Really? This has much more of the feel of the decade that succeeded it - and with the sort of sublimely wretched excess that I have come to associate with, and love about, that whole ZTT vibe...

I love some of her record covers, but haven't actually heard her before.  This track is quite impressive.  Gotta check her out.  Contrast its evolved sound with Carlo Buti's vintage attempt (1950?).
