This is just one of those long, uncomplicated grooves that you can lay back and do whatever you want to or need to do. It gets bonus points for starting out with that squealy little synth modualtion (which reminds me a bit too much of the Theme from the Rockford Files). The Blackbyrds were an academically pedigreed group, as several of the members were extracted from the Howard University Music Dept. Donald Byrd put the original group together in 1974 with percussionist * Pericles "Perk" Jacobs, Jr., drummer Keith Killgo, keyboardist Kevin Toney, reeds player Allan Barnes, bassist Joe Hall, guitarist Barney Perry.
