A Day In The Life Of...Tim and (The Real) Puma Mimi / Radio, Television & On Tour

Tim and Puma Mimi began their "Here Comes Real Mimi" tour in March 2009 (until May). What makes this allotted 3 months so special is that Puma Mimi wouldn't be performing via Skype in Japan, as is the case normally, but she would finally arrive in Switzerland to join Tim on stage and witness for herself the growing fanbase of admirers and experience the excitement of recording for radio, television and gigging live in the flesh. I had the opportunity to tag along for several of these occasions and I'd like to share some experiences as an observer, a music lover and as one of their fans.

MAR09 RADIO SESSION - COULEUR 3, MÉTISSAGES.
Having met Tim briefly before, I already knew a little about him. For instance, his serious thought process and quiet nature that makes a unique contrast to his outgoing and humourous perspective on things. His virtual partnership with Mimi is one of energy, complicity and creativity that, for all i knew, had to be much more interesting once she was in our same time zone. That day I found my way to the station (my favourite I might add) and met the Real Mimi; a petite dynamite, the charming pixie that dazzled the many behind the scenes of the radio program Métissages and Couleur 3. The taping began promptly as the radio employees danced along and took photos. Just like me, another fan. The sound engineer let us in to watch and listen.

MAR09 TELEVISION INTERVIEW - MUSICOMAX, MAD.

The next day, we tagged along for their second TV appearance on the TSR music show, Musicomax. As the last time, the crew were so friendly and accomodating. My partner in crime and I even had some background screen time which made us pretty nervous. The interview was conducted in English and their previous TV/Skype performance was edited in. I was starting to realise how much the French side of Switzerland was paying much attention to this duo I have come to know since. We sent them on their way to continue the fun in Geneva.

APR09 DÉPENDANCE, BADEN - HOMEMADE CONCERT.
Earlier this year, I asked a close friend if he would be interested in hosting a concert for Tim and Puma Mimi, he said yes. After the Easter holidays, I travelled to Baden (near Zurich) to begin the final preparations for the party that would introduce my partner John (The Vagus Nerve), showcase the sweet and lyrical Swiss rapper Adept and feature the spunky duo I had accompanied a month ago. We had a very eclectic line-up of experimental noise, rap and the thumping electro-pop of Tim and Puma Mimi. My fellow organisers did an outstanding job with professional lights, sound, bar and a beautiful venue that we transformed into a cozy maze of comfort, club and inebriation. We even had fog ;-)

The ironic thing is, since December 2008, I hadn't actually seen a real concert of theirs. To have Mimi play off Tim was such a different experience than the Skype concerts. Both being awesome but the shared performance was much more reactive and the connection between the two was a spark uncompared. The consensus was unanimous and it was a joy to see all the people arrive, enjoy the show and stick around for what became morning. We were even treated to a surprise encore.

I'd like to extend many thanks to Tim and Puma Mimi and everyone else involved with all the above for being so kind and generous, and for allowing me the opportunity to come along for the ride and be apart of very cool times.
Tim and Puma Mimi, congratualtions on your growing and well deserved success.

This band is a great concept. Are they the only ones using Skype this way?
Hey John, cheers for checking them out. I'm not sure actually. With Skype it is a great concept and made people remember them the past year but I have to say, I loved LOVED them both live. What's very sweet is that in real life, they're a couple perhaps the reason for my preference.
Skype keeps couples together! One element I liked is that quite high tech was being used to produce fairly low-tech sounds. There's a perverse logic about it that appeals.
exactly john, you nailed it.
