Tabla Beat Science / An Amazing Track via Nialler9

*When I heard this, I flashed back to a John McLaughlin concert* I saw at the "Jazz à Vienne":http://www.jazzavienne.com festival. The headliner was "Shakti":http://www.innerviews.org/inner/shakti.html, McLaughlin's 'acoustic fusion music' with L. Shankar.Funny enough, "nialler9":http://www.nialler9.com/blog/2007/07/27/trilok-gurtu, who featured this track a while back, mentions one of the members of Tabla as playing with McLaughlin in years past. No surprise there I suppose but just as pleasant."Basically this is a musician that has been knockin out some of the most inventive tabla rhythms solo and with a diverse selection of heads from John McLaughlin to Talvin Singh for over 30 years.""...is a musical group founded in 1999 by Zakir Hussain and Bill Laswell. Its style consists of a mixture of Hindustani music, Asian Underground, Ambient, Drum and Bass, and Electronica. Laswell met with Karsh Kale (who had worked together with Bill for years), and they later teamed up with Talvin Singh and Trilok Gurtu. All six have written for Tabla Beat Science's music." - "Wiki":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabla_Beat_Science*Links*"nialler9 blog":http://www.nialler9.com/blog/2007/07/27/trilok-gurtu"Tabla Beat Science Profile":http://tablabeatscience.calabashmusic.com"About Shakti":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakti_with_John_McLaughlin

  7. ciphermedia says This a great album - haven't listened to it in a while (my cd's gone missing, and I didn't import it to itunes - damn). Bill Laswell has a great knack of collaborating with and paying homage to amazing musicians and genres, and twisting them into something fascinatingly interesting and yet somewhat different. He does it again brilliantly on this. Great post LadyC.

  10. Hermes says Hui, never heard such psychedelic tablas. Together with the church bell samples this makes a quite interesting atmosphere. Reminds me a bit of Outcast, but this here is by far more experimental. Great stuff.
