Track:You Take My Breath Away
The Knife are a Swedish brother and sister who make the most consistently unsettling but compulsive electro/pop/weird music I've heard in a while.
The music is composed of weird instrumentation (electro-style Jamaican steel drums, anyone?) and unusual time signatures, and the vocalist, while occasionally vaguely Bjork-esque, manages to sound both old-fashioned (in a kind of gin-soaked cabaret torch singer way) and also frighteningly "alien" and robotically futuristic at the same time. And yet...a lot of their songs still have melodies that will stay in your head as catchy as any "pop" song you care to mention.Part of me wants to "keep" this song to myself, despite the fact that a little digging proves them to be way more popular and respected than I'd originally thought upon hearing them for the first time about 6 months ago. This is one of those songs, though, that I think everybody should hear, if only once...They've got a *lot* of stuff out, and I'm only starting to catch up, but I'd recommend begging, borrowing or stealing the album "Silent Shout" to begin with.More info:http://www.theknife.net/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_knifehttp://www.last.fm/music/The+Knife
