WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Lily Allen

Posted over 2 years ago
Bit of a departure from my usual tastes, but I stumbled across Lily Allen recently and felt like sharing. The critic's shorthand for her is "the female Mike Skinner (aka The Streets)", which is semi-accurate I suppose - little vignettes of urban living, relationships, drinking, drug-taking, and assorted little tales of little lives, musically veering from garage-y or drum n bass to gentle acoustic numbers. She shows a wicked sense of humour on a lot of her stuff too that seems a bit less forced and laddish than The Streets, to my ears at least.Anyway, this is a bouncy little track about the modern girl's dilemma of how to deal with unwanted advances in a pub etc, and is worth it for the little aside of "Oh, please fuck off" if nothing else...or maybe I'm just easily amused.

  1. leftoverking says i'm liking this record. my wife picked it up a while back, and it is pretty infectious. my only fear is that my three year old daughter is going to start picking up on the lyrics. she's pretty sharp.
