MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

I went to the UST at Constitution Hall in D.C. on Monday night. Since it was anchored by Cake (one of my favorite bands), it was a great show. I discovered a couple new artists - Brazilian Girls was one of the opening acts, and they definitely piqued my interest with their strong beats, eclectic influences, and lead singer's mastery of, apparently, five different languages. It was a better show than the last Cake show I went to - a New Year's Eve show last year in Milwaukee. Not that that one was bad or anything, this one was just better.

I remember going to UST on its first year, with Modest Mouse and Flaming Lips. MM were pretty dull, Cake were quite good, and man, Flaming Lips practically made me cry that night. What an exciting set they did...

Yeah, so I hear. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the Lips yet, but Wayne Coyne is supposedly pretty dynamic - using lasers and giant plastic bubbles and whatnot. I'm gonna try to catch them next time they come through here.
