At last I've replaced my copy of "The Beginning Stages of..The Polyphonic Spree." I had a copy a while back and then had a hard drive go wonky and when reloading iTunes from the backup one of the disks was bad and I lost several things.
If you've never heard them, I'll give you some idea what they're like. Imagine ELO with a chorus and a theremin and throw in the flute from Jethro Tull and you've got some idea of what they are like. Oh, and then add some ambient tracks as well.
Volkswagen used "Light & Day/Reach For The Sun" in one of their commercials for the Beetle several years ago, so it may sound somewhat familiar.
This particular album is a celebration of the day and the sun, and as such, it's filled with joyful sounds, as well as the long slow buzzing of insects on a hot summer afternoon.
The 'Spree are somewhat controversial, some critics hate them while their shows continue to sell out and word-of-mouth from those who've seen them is that they're amazing.
Give The Polyphonic Spree a listen, you might enjoy them, especially if you're into progressive/alternative rock.
