WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

George W. Bush's Contributions to Music, Pt. 2

Posted 5 months ago

Trent Reznor is no stranger to political sarcasm/satire and 2007's Year Zero is no exception. His tongue was especially sharp on one particular track, "Capital G" :

i pushed a button and elected him to office and a
he pushed a button and it dropped a bomb
you pushed a button and could watch it on the television
those m*****f*****s didn't last too long ha ha
i'm sick of hearing bout the haves and the have nots
have some personal accountability
the biggest problem with the way that we've been doing things is
the more we let you have the less that i'll be keeping for me

well i used to stand for something
now i'm on my hands and knees
traded in my god for this one
he signs his name with a capital G

don't give a sh*t about the temperature in guatemala
don't really see what all the fuss is about
ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and a
i'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out
don't try to tell me how some power can corrupt a person
you haven't had enough to know what it's like
you're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
now nod your head because you know that i'm right - all right!

well i used to stand for something
but forgot what that could be
there's a lot of me inside you
maybe you're afraid to see

well i used to stand for something
now i'm on my hands and knees
traded in my god for this one
he signs his name with a capital G

No reason to be shy there, Trent!

Brilliant lyrics.  Also, the Democrats just don't get it.  Don't they realize that if the government bureaucrats would stop taxing robbing me of my hard-earned dividend income, then government revenue would soar, and could be used for punishment the military and law enforcement .

I can only imagine what a nightmare it must be to try and juggle the federal budget so that everyone is happy. As a person who paid into the system and now needs benefits, I can honestly say that health care in this country is absurd. And the only way to fix it is to provide incentive for the big insurers and doctors to control costs.  The only way we can "incentive-ize" that is to create a public health option that they have to compete with.

I'm all for making sure out military stays "top-of-the-line," but this country has other things that have languished for years (read "infrastructure").  And frankly, if Bush hadn't started the war in Iraq, we wouldn't have a military that has taken the losses it has, used the materials it has.

I see the fiscal responsibility the Republicans call for as valid, but they want to spend spend spend on the military and let the people die for lack of health care.  And the Dems, who now have a majority, aren't bold enough to use it to get things done, NOW, while they have an opportunity.  Can we throw all of them out and start fresh?
