CHUK'd started out doing covers and gradually picked up their own sound, as a lot of bands do. Is Kansas City ready for it? I think so.
They're working on some more demo stuff in the studio now, but they've got some of their stuff up at MySpace on their home page.
Until this week, when Rhapsody added non-DRM MP3 downloads, it was impossible to redeem the Rhapsody downloads earned with "My Coke Rewards" points.
However, it can be done now! Here's the method:
- Go to Rhapsody and create a free (limited to 25 song plays) account.
- Go to My Coke Rewards and choose the Rhapsody song download reward you want (either unspecified, Rap, or Country) and write down the coupon code on the next page.
- Go to Rhapsody and sign in to your account.
- click on "My Account" and you'll see your account info
- On this page there is a box to redeem a coupon code. Type in your Coke Rewards coupon code.
- Your account will be credited $.99 and you can then surf to your desired download.
- click the "buy MP3" link and follow the instructions. When you get to the checkout page, you'll see the credit applied to your download.
Stumbled on a cool site today, Beyond the Beat Generation, a repository of orphaned and indie tracks from the 60's underground. I just glanced at their playlist (it's huge) and found stuff from ? & the Mysterians, the Animals, and the Argyles.
The site has several streams (mostly 56k) from servers in the US and Europe. They've also got a treasury of video clips of such acts as Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, and the Hollies, just to name a few.
I've been running the stream through iTunes and the playlist is very good. I just heard "My Generation" by a group called "the Bruthers" and it was a decent cover that sounded like it was recorded live. Give them a try if you're into 60's music.

Thank God for this -- and I hate Rhapsody DRM -- I am still having serious problems with Rhapsody and DRM software on my new Lenovo -- it keeps saying I don't have DRM software, it downloads crap again and again, and I'm still not able to use my Rhapsody To Go subscription. So I am limited to use my old Dell laptop. It really bugs me.
DRM is the devil.
I agree, funoka. I've been buying from Amazon more and more lately. I love iTunes, and it's convenient to get songs while I'm in the program, but I just hate the DRM imposed.
You're right -- Amazon is really the way to go -- syncs up very nicely with iTunes.
The funny thing is that I was a big Rhapsody proponent when it launched. I will keep my To Go subscription, but I basically have stopped buying music from Rhapsody and use Amazon and iTunes to manage my library these days.
My gripes also extend to the Sansa Rhapsody 8GB player I have had for two years -- they need to come up with something that has more storage.
