SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Arizona Pop Rockers Give Corporate America the Finger…and you free music

Posted over 2 years ago
I spoken of The Format on several occasions and I still can’t explain exactly what I like about them musically. The Format were grabbed by not one, but two different major labels and hailed as the next big thing, only to have their music dictated by bean counters, their album sales suffer, and then be dropped by said major labels. This lead the Format to give the entire label business the finger, and then self-produce and distribute their own work. Well, it’s been a year, since their truly independent and representative album “Dog Problems” came out and to celebrate that year, they’re giving the entire album away. Nate lists several reasons for doing this: they’re not owned by a giant corporation, they want you to have the album, and you’re not stealing it, but it’s one of my favorite (albeit guilty pleasure) albums of the past few years. I’m borrowing this phrase from Justin, buy these guys sound like The Coldwar Kids would if they didn’t take themselves so seriously. Check out the free album at www.theformat.com. They ask you to sign up for the mailing list, to get it for free, but if you’d like, you can use my spam signup email selfwitz@yahoo.com

  4. Known Human says I posted this moments after I got the mailing-list email, so it's probably the original rush. Have no fear Puffy, the album is free until the 16th.
