WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I hadn't heard John Legend's first record, but was intrigued about this one. Overall I agree with the positive reviews from many of the mags. _Once Again_ is a fantastic listen from beginning to end. Even when some of the songs fall short of being great, there is always something in them to keep you listening. The production value is gorgeous. Most of the songs belong in a time gone past. "Maxine" sounds as if it should have come from Todd Rundgren's __Something/Anything__ . "Show Me" comes straight from Stevie Wonder's __Innervisions__. And "Each Day Gets Better" borrows nicely from "I'll Be Around" by The Spinners. Make no mistake, JL isn't a ripoff artist. As Joni Mitchell once described Prince, "He's a great hybrid."

  1. Spencer Owen says Haven't heard this guy yet, but that's an awesome quote from Joni about Prince (from a favorite to a favorite, and might I also add that Prince idolizes Joni...).

  3. MoreToKnow says Late, I know, but if you even sort of enjoyed this release I'd suggest his first much more. Get Lifted has all of the same great production qualities and old school throwbacks, but less of the cheese ball effect.
