The weirdest best gig ever

Yesterday I ventured to west London for a gig in Nottinghill Gate, which is the first time in ages I have been that far for a gig, and oh my god it was the wierdest gig ever. I LOVED it.It was the first Raincoats gig for about 8 years.They are fundraising to build houses in Uganda. The gig was during the day in a big old church and included a cake sale and cups of tea. It was full of very posh people and their children. LOTS of children. But I suppose the benefit of this is that Beth Orton played (at one stage during the set she lost her child. I was amused), and Mick Jones, who seemed to want to spend the day getting drunk except for the few minutes he was performing with a group of teenagers called the Dirty Curtains.Anyway, I digress. The highlight was totally The Raincoats, who were amazing. they look a bit like the nicest grandmothers you could ever want to meet, and it was amazing that they could be so edgy and awesome. It was like seeing childhood heroes. My favourite song was Babydog, which is basically about being unable to have children. It was heartbreaking, but in a punk way.
