MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Okay moggers, time for a little Desert Island.

The category is: Top 10 Albums.

If you aren’t familiar with the game, it’s simple. If you were stuck on a desert island – perhaps for the rest of your life (!!!) - which 10 albums would you most like to have with you? List your all-time favorites. They don’t necessarily have to be the best albums - just the ones that you enjoy the most and/or the ones that have meant the most to you. These are albums that you can listen to straight through on repeat without eventually going bananas.

Also, while this isn’t an official rule, everything I’m listing is at least 5 years old; therefore, these albums have stood the test of time in my short life. (This self-imposed restriction also makes excluding my recent favorites a lot less painful.) You might want to do this as well. But for instance, if you just got the new Whites Stripes album and are like “Woohoo! Yeah!”, I certainly wouldn’t blame you for putting it on your list because it is some kind of awesome.

Okay. Let’s hear it!

I’ll start: 1. Abbey Road – The Beatles 2. St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles 3. The Bends – Radiohead 4. OK Computer - Radiohead 5. The Joshua Tree (or Achtung Baby) – U2 6. New Jersey – Bon Jovi 7. Slippery When Wet – Bon Jovi 8. Siamese Dream – Smashing Pumpkins 9. Play – Moby 10. Third Eye Blind – Third Eye Blind (Oh, leave me alone!)

…This is tougher than I thought. Maybe I should have made this the Top 20 instead…

How could I forget the Barenaked Ladies?!! I'm not exactly their biggest fan (I don't have any of their studio albums), but Rock Spectacle is probably my favorite live album ever. I must have listened to it at least a million times.

So much Beatles love, it’s great. I know I had a hard time limiting myself to only two.

Rawkkiddo: New Order is wonderful.

Lord Dream: Yeah, definitely not some of the best albums, but I couldn't help myself so I made sure to add that implicit disclaimer! And I was so close to putting the Cure on my list too; I just couldn’t decide on an album. Too many choices…

I will stick to the "album" concept. No best of's..The list might be different with them

Joni Mitchell-Hejira Cymande-Cymande The Upsetters-Super Ape Miles Davis-Sketches of Spain John Coltrane-A Love Supreme Jimi Hendrix-Electric Ladyland Funkadelic-Maggot Brain Ella Fitzgerald Sings The George and Ira Gershwin Songbook Etta Baker-Railroad Bill Augustus Pablo-East Of the River Nile

These are not my Top 10 of all time. Just 10 I could live with over and over. Not too many vocals, lots of wide open space in the music.

Think I'm gonna have a mix of albums on my list, partly because I don't have 10 all time favourites :

My all time faves (of which there are 2) Fun albums - ones which I might not listen to all the time, but are fun party CDs And a few different ones for variation.

Here goes

Hikaru Utada - Deep River Hyde - Roentgen Hikaru Utada - Ultra Blue Ayumi Hamasaki - (miss)understood Angela Aki - Home Mika Nakashima - Music Girls Aloud - The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits Akeboshi - Akeboshi L'Arc en Ciel - Ray L'Arc en Ciel - Clicked Singles Best 13

^That had me thinking. Was tempted to put the Tomb Raider (first film) soundtrack in there so I have more english music and a bit more variation, but I don't love it as much as I used to, though it's still good....and I'm not sure yet if Akeboshi's album will stand the test of time.... I always find these things hard lol, cause I'm always thinking "OK what are my fave albums" then I need to take things out for variation lol.

Echo & The Bunnymen – my favorite band name of all time. :)

One cool thing about asking for everyone’s favorite ten albums is that you get introduced to a lot of new music. While I have many of these albums (or at least artists) on my iPod already, there are a few of these that I’m not at all familiar with. (I’m talking about your list, milkshake!) I’ll definitely have to look some of this stuff up. Awesome.

Though I respect CodyB for not going the best of's... I don't know if I can pull it off... here goes (holding my breath as I jump into uncharted territory).

No Part Order:

Blind Melon: Soup Concrete Blonde: Mexican Moon Verve Pipe: Villains Tori Amos: Little Earthquakes Depeche Mode: 101 (live) - kinda going against you with that one huh CodyB ;) Afghan Whigs: Gentlemen Alice in Chains: Dirt Miles Davis: Kind of Blue Cinematic Orchestra: Everyday Amy Correia: Carnival Love Jeff Buckley: Live at Sin-e The Frames: Setlist Faith No More: King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime ( Angel Dust isn't speaking to me now - I hope you're satisfied) ;P

(three over - but these are my terms & I am sticking to them - can't cut no moe)

Kiddo: for the record - I love Third Eye Blind's self-titled as well !!!! Beginning to end I can listen & be a happy camper :)

man, this was really fucking hard. but in the end, i prevailed. and i just had to throw some soundtracks and a compilation in there. i couldn't help myself. :)

1. Nick Drake (i looooove all of them, but if i wasn't allowed to take my nick drake mix cd i made, then i'd have to go with "Pink Moon")

2. Nine Inch Nails - "The Fragile" (especially the left cd)

3. Death Cab For Cutie - "The Photo Album"

4. My Chemical Romance - "Welcome To The Black Parade"

5. The White Stripes - "The White Stripes" (jack crooning "st. james' infirmary" is one of my all time fave versions, second only to the ultra amazing josh white)

6. "Winter Passing" soundtrack (Dawn Landes and Goldcard and Bottomside and Deadsy on one album? tres bien!)

7. Vivaldi - "The Four Seasons" (i love me some classical shit)

8. Nina Simone - "Tomato Collection" (nina, you can put some sugar in my bowl anyday...no, wait, that came out wrong...)

9. "Garden State" soundtrack (Colin Hay and The Shins and Iron and Wine all on one album? tres tres bien!)

10. Damien Rice - "O" (i make a point to listen to this cd and get drunk and angry and broken-hearted at least once a month)

and if there was some extra room in my desert island bag (and there always is because i am the master packer) then i'd have to sneak in there: →Billie Holiday - "Lady Day" best of →"Cruel Intentions" soundtrack →Death Cab For Cutie - "We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes" →The Postal Service - "Give Up" →The Elected - "Sun, Sun, Sun" →Josh White - anything, especially his 1930s and 1940s stuff →Bob Dylan - "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan"

even though it's against my own rules - if i could, i would swap out... uh.. Amnes.. no.. [cringe] 17 seconds [/cringe] for a mix cd of Brazzaville. they have about 20 songs i love, but spread out over 6 albums - making it impossible to pick one.
