Bis - Satan's Hollow - Manchester

Posted about 5 years ago
10 years ago, I bought my first "non commercial" CD from and independant record shop. That CD was New Transistor Heroes, by a Glaswegian trio called Bis. Yesterday, I saw the band play live. It was my first Bis show, and saldy, was the last show of the reunion tour, that started off as a joke to the band, who disbanded 4 years ago. Bursting onto the stage with Tell It To The Kids, it took me only 10 seconds to realise how much I've missed them. Even though their debut album was realeased 10 years ago, the catchy ska-pop sounds as fresh now as it ever did, and the energy levels through the show were amazing. Never seeming tired or jaded, or bitter at the lack of attention given to them when they were together, the trio shouted and bounced through all the old favourites from New Transister Heros and Social Dancing. John and Steven played guitar like their very lives depended on it, looking less like the nerdy schoolboys of years ago, Manda has not aged a day, although her vocals appear to have been toned down a little. The crowd were very into the whole show, bouncing along with the band, who seemed surprised and overwhelmed at the attention. The venue was amazing - the band played in the centre of the room, with the audience surrounding them. It was a tiny intimate affair, with a real friendly party atmosphere going on. Their final song of the set, Kandy Pop, was a riotous affair, and it was sad to see the band leave the stage for the final time. Reunion tours are all the rage at the moment, but this is the one reunion I was actually excited to see. I firmly believe that their music would do really well now - they were truly ahead of their time. More show photos
