Britpop revisited

Posted over 2 years ago
So, a friend is doing a thing at college where his band have to find 3 classic britpop songs from 1994-1997 & learn & play them. He's only 16, so scarily, Britpop passed him by, so he asked me... as an elderly friend. I can't actually think of any other good bands that came out of the Britpop era. Blur, maybe. At least they mixed it up a bit. It's strange... I just got all nostalgic, looking at old compliation CDs... then shocked that I even liked any of them. It's the bands I didn't like at the time that seem to sound better to me now. The Longpigs, which of course spawned Richard Hawley, passed me by at the time. And Elastica. How can I have only just discovered Elastica?

  2. lemontwist says I dunno if the Verve are really pop but Bittersweet Symphony is a kickass song from that era.

  3. KezOnTour says The Verve are good local boys - we're from the same town. Urban Hymns was another I found dull at the time, but Velvet Morning sends shivers down my spine nowadays.

  4. Dale says How about some Boo Radleys? They kinda flitted between Brit-pop and dream pop, but "Wake Up Boo!", wow, what a fun pop song.
