WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

De doo doo doo, de da da da

I came back at about 2:22am tonight/this a.m. from Montreal where I just saw The Police at the Bell Centre. It took the crowd a few songs to get into it but the place was pretty full and it quickly became a +3 awesome show that featured Andy Summers' brilliant guitar work quite prominently. These guys still can kick ass.The opening band was Fictionplane with Joe Sumner (Sting's kid) on bass and vocals. Man, was that ever spooky to hear him sing so much like his father at that age. Pretty good tunes made for an enjoyable opening. We, the guys I saw The Police with in 1984 in Syracuse and I, sat in the mid-level overlooking the stage from the right-hand side with no obstructions at all. The echoes threw some sounds out of tune though for where we were sitting and that's always bit annoying to me but that was easy to get over for the thrill of the show. During our travel to Montreal, the guys and I shared lots of memories of the '84 show, which took place a day or so after I turned 16. Like Sting, I had lots more hair then. The three rock legends and hall-of-famers were having a great time with zero sign of antagonism between them. Their joy of playing definitely showed and could be heard in the music. The crowd was pleasantly around my age give or take 10 years. It's a bit weird when you know you're one of the oldest people in a crowd of several thousand for some shows.I came home and quickly turned on Google Chat to chat with my sister in Erlangen, Germany as she was just getting up. I had thought I'd have the opportunity to lord it over her that I'd just seen them but then she said she and her husband had tickets for a fall show over in Munich. D'oh! She was at the 1984 show with me at the Carrier Dome also. (There's a story about her losing her ticket then and my dad chasing down the bus at 80mph when she found it but I don't feel like relating it again tonight!) We also saw Sting at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center together a couple years ago.Lots of excitement to be had for sure at this show. Catch it if you can and can afford it. Plenty of old school-style t-shirts being sold too. I tried on my shirt from that 1984 show and ummm... let's just say it was a bit too form fitting now and leave it at that.1984 show price? About $15. 2007 show price? About $90.Well worth it.P.S. I had a nice Scoth Ale at a brew pub and some chicken poutine at a St. Hub's resto-bar. I also ogled the lovely Canadian women. Some of them were as purdy as Anna!
