It's been a long time since I've posted anything up here! Hi MOG friends. (Do I still have any MOG friends?)I've been real busy working on the next Roommate album and some other projects. I won't post any samples of the album yet, but I did perform one of its tracks on the U. of Texas' KVRX radio station the day after playing at the ridiculous circus that is SXSW, and I've posted the recording here. The album version has the drum machine beats in this version plus real drums, a four-person guiro percussion jam, soft 80s synth pads, banjo, violins, crazy warbly analog synths, and a turpentine can hit with a mallet and run through crazy reverse delays so it sounds like a synthetic bongo. And surf guitar. And cowbell. Lots of crazy shit man.As for listening, I've been pretty seriously obsessed with vinyl lately--am working on ripping most of my CDs to a hard drive and trading them in for luscious vinyl. My favorite has been Alice Coltrane's Journey in Satchinanda, a lovely 180g reissue. It is some transcendental loveliness. I've also been revisiting Ornette Coleman's The Shape of Jazz To Come and having some splendid moments with it. Blonde Redhead's new album 23 has been in heavy rotation too. Delicious ear candy. What do you think of Low's new album? I'm getting into it but the hard-panned vocals took some getting used to. Kind of a bold production choice if you ask me. I keep coming back to the song "Murderer", it's got some heavy lyrics and those Alan Sparhawk/Mimi Parker harmonies that always get me. Speaking of vinyl, our New Steam EP (presently only available as a download from iTunes/beatport/etc.) is coming out on 10" colored vinyl in a limited edition of 500! The release will happen in late June courtesy of Shrug records and will be celebrated with a show somewhere in Chicago.Alright, that's it for me for now. I hope you and yours are well.

Vinyl is definitely the support for jazz... I wish I could play mine on a proper hi-fi system which tends to be bulkier than a standard mp3 set up. More on vinyl later.
