Top 10 Albums of 2007

Posted over 4 years ago
This was one of the most exciting years for music for me in a long time. It feels like we are on the threshold of something new, a new era. I can't put my finger on it, but the times are changing. It seems like music is finally being taken back from the corporations. Here is my list of top ten albums of 2007 with a slight bent towards psychedelic pop. I want to thank Radiohead for keeping true to their ethics as few big artists are willing to and a big thanks to Animal Collective and Panda Bear for cracking my world wide open.1. Radiohead- In Rainbows2. Animal Collective- Strawberry Jam3. M.I.A.- Kala4. Pand Bear- Person Pitch5. Iron & Wine- The Shepard's Dog6. Amy Winehouse- Back To Black7. Spoon- Gagagaga8. Tegan & Sara- The Con9. The Shins- Wincing The Night Away10. Amiina- Kurr

  1. deadmandeadman says Good list. I don't fully agree, but its all subjective, no? The cds from your list that I'm familiar with are very good indeed. Animal Collective in particular have been constantly amusing as they evolve and this years model finds them mischeviously twisting and inverting convention even as their sound edges closer to the _illusion_ of a more mainstream approach.

  2. Kathmandu says No doubt the list. I in no way intended this list to be the Top ten best for everyone. It comes down to being very personal. These albums I happen to love and listen to over and over. As to Animal Collective, I am a late comer only seriously checking them out this year. It is so good. Almost all of it. After I got Panda Bear's Person Pitch, I quickly got Strawberry Jam, then the rest. All of it. I love Feels, Campfire Songs, Sung Tongs, all of it amazing. What's on your list? I am wanting to hear more stuff!

  3. BerkeleyBob says Not familiar with everyone on your ten best, but I had the opportunity to hear Anima do a set with Sigur Ros at Oakland's Paramount. Fascinating stuff. Despite her issues with addiction and self-destructive behavior, Amy's album was brilliant. She is a talent, if she gets over her problems. I was pretty impressed with Mia, too, although I wouldn't give it a top ten rate. BerkBob

  4. Art Circles says Hey Paul-Tony here, thanks for the list-a good one. One of your picks would have to be bumped to make room for Arcade Fire on mine, also-I'd probably find a way to put Wilco's latest in there too-but I know that's highly personal. Don't know Amiina-will have to investigate. And I'd put M.I.A. at the top of mine-still my fave of '07. Cheers!
