my champion Jaq brought me to meet Legend at his video shoot in brooklyn. we chatted briefly about palin ( i've been getting alot about that being from alaska ) and i discovered he knew quite a bit about my home state. when i asked how he knew he said " i read ". we stayed for lunch and my music ended up in his hands, said he would take a listen. the entire time, i have to admit i was pretty starstruck. I've been a fan for years and I just couldn't form my thoughts or my sentences properly. That is rare for me to get so tongue tied. Oh well. That sort of thing must happen to him all the time. I'll let you know if i ever hear back. I did hear back from mark ronson. looks like he likes my new song " alot ". it will be a minute before i can unveil that one. it is crazy to think that a year ago I didn't know where my next meal was coming from and now I write blogs about so and so who i listen to faithfully , listenin to my stuff. un - real!
today i was frolicking about in upstate new york. the original idea was to pick apples in woodstock. i really want to make a lattice top apple pie. but we ended up at a sculpture garden where Gabe took these new pics that i've added to my photos. He is so slick with it, it reminds me of the gucci ads. Thanks gaber you genius. peace and light....
p.s. if you haven't checked out Jazmine Sullivan yet... that girl is silly talented
I spent the days leading up to the election in Pittsburg, PA. The entire time, I walked throughout the neighborhoods of rural Elizabeth Township knocking on doors to get out the vote of first time voters and obama supporters. From the time we woke up on the day of the election until the polls closed we pleaded with people to get down to the polls. Most folks were proud to say they had already voted. One woman didn't feel like leaving the house. By the time we left her, she was walking to the polling place near her house.
Stationed at the Steelworkers for Obama headquarters, I spoke with a gentleman for a while asking him what he had witnessed recently. He said there were individuals in the area who were still behind in their view of race. He told me some men he knew did not want to vote for McCain, but " on principal " they could not allow themselves to vote for a black man either. So even though they may prefer Obama's plan for america, they would not be voting at all. Indirectly, they contributed to his election.
We ended up at a gymnasium in McKeesport watching a big screen and having a beer with the mayor. A curious group of little boys sat with me and asked me questions as we watched the results come in. I kept getting misty and they kept offering me pizza.
even if you don't remember the original commercial, it still hits close to home

how cool you got to meet Legend in person! i too have been explaining what Alaska is like to a lot of folks lately (having lived their often). And of course, defending its honor by swearing that most people are not as dumb as Palin and are actually quite well-read and aware of what happens in the rest of the world. i kept saying, "Alaska has internet access! It's not as isolated as you think..." LOL.
beautiful photo! that's awesome you like jazmine sullivan. i've been listening to her lately.
