My friend Geoff went to Willie Nelson's annual July 4th musical picnic and brought back two insanely hilarious songs he heard there. The band was Folk Uke, lead by Amy Nelson and Cathy Guthrie (the daughters of Willie and Arlo). The first song I heard was "Knock Me Up" - "I feel fertile tonight, are you game? Play your cards right and I won't take your name. I just want your baby, it's not like it's your Mercedes..." followed by "Motherf...er Got F...ed Up". Now picture Fort Worth, Texas if you can. It is not exactly a liberal oasis. Here come these two relatively innocent looking girls strolling onto stage, and what do they belt out? Hell yeah- "Motherf...er Got F...ed Up"!!!
The Folk Uke website is here: http://www.folkuke.com/index.html
You can buy the album on ITunes.

What a gem! I love "Knock Me Up". I had to buy it after hearing the sample.

Great stuff! If you're keen for new twists on the uke, check out "Calendar Calendar" by Japanese pop (but not quite J-pop) artist Ayano Tsuji. NPR has a story on her here. The album costs a fortune on Amazon, though, so hopefully you can find her tunes elsewhere.

I love the fact that I have actually heard people say "Yeah, that Motherf...er got F...ed Up 'cause he got in the way" while on the bus or in a bar....

Damn straight! That sounds like something David Sedaris's brother Rooster would say.
