I've been hearing good things about England's The Noisettes for a few months now, but all the reviewers seem stuck on the same tired comparison: "Frontwoman Shingai Shinowa sounds like a punk Billie Holiday". Well okay, except can't you do better than that? To me, the band combines a super tight rock and roll sound with Shingai's almost Karen Dalton-like rough croon. I've also heard their live show is wild and amazing, but I don't think they've hit America yet. Check Itunes for the "3 Moods" EP or Itunes UK for the "Scratch Your Name" Ep.

they also have a myspace page, although currently the songs available (for download) are a remix of don't give up and a b-side winds blows hot.. by all means check out the first real single out on transgressive, iwe (available from the above link). it was released back in feb. and phil jupitus from bbc6 was dropping it...as was i - once i got my hands on the 45". the latest issue (sep06) of rolling stone lists it as a hot single...a little behind the curve. looks up and sees the 'posted 54 days ago' and cringes.

Damn Kate, you had the 411 on this band so many months before they came to light. Teach us in your foresighted ways...

It's all about spending every waking minute researching new music online :) Unfortunately, I only have the time to post about once a week!
