Having been at various times a record store clerk, concert-goer, DJ and all around music lover, one thing that has always bugged me is that, no matter what, the world of music collecting is still a rampant boys club. Whether it's being ogled at record conventions or being snobbily talked down to at record stores, ("Is that for your boyfriend?") it is still a struggle to be a girl in a boy's world. And by the way, NO- this vinyl copy of "Trout Mask Replica" is most certainly not for my boyfriend and if you ask me that one more time I will rip off your $80 Stones t-shirt and strangle you with it! And so, in the spirit of ballsy women, I recommend two songs by my favorite rebellious women... #1: "Berketex Bribe" by Crass. The song has a long intro of African drums, followed by gut-wrenching vocals sung by Eve Libertine and Joy de Vivre. #2: "Wau Wau" by Nina Hagen - damn but she can bark melodically!

Nina Hagen is NUTS. Totally nuts. But yes, very melodically.
And yes, I hate the boys' club too. I could say more about this, but you said it quite well, thanks...

Nina is great, in the late eighties I saw a couple of shows from her!
