WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Am I Willing to Die for My Country in Order to Get 5 Free Music Downloads?

Posted over 3 years ago
The U.S. Navy knows me really well. So well, in fact, that they just sent me a truly unbelievable offer. I can get 5 FREE MUSIC DOWNLOADS just for filling out a simple form at navy.com/action. But that's not all- in order to receive these downloads, I have to be willing to be called by a Navy recruiter "to verify my information". Thank goodness they also let me know that it is okay "to feel free to ask questions". Wow- could it be that the Navy saw my MOG page and said to themselves, "this girl knows her stuff- she would be a great addition to our new department of 'Navy Music Bloggers'"? Could it also be that they chose to target me because my father is a Vietnam Vet., who is vehemently anti-war? I am just blown away by the superior marketing intelligence at work.

  8. mister gary at work again says I truly can't stop giggling at this. Related, somewhat: I hadn't heard of this campaign until I just read your post, but this morning I was running a bit late for work, so I lit up the corner 7-11 by work to get a coffee. While I was there, I wound up talking to a few Navy recruiters that were in for the same reason ... They were funny as hell, and not at all deluded about their recruiting duties, going off on tangents about the absurdity of recent recruitment campaigns. I wonder if this bunk you just posted was something they had in mind. So great.

  11. Kate says Wanbli, thanks for the link to your post. I think I missed it the first time around. I keep thinking that yes, I would like to feel free to ask questions, but I don't want to have to be called by a recruiter who probably wouldn't be able to answer the kind of questions I have anyway.

  22. SWozniak says Something tells me certain artists are exempted from this. Neil Young. Rage Against the Machine. Thom Yorke (actually, probably not...I assume the Navy now thinks we're too stupid to know what Thom is talking about). Ani Difranco. If anybody actually signs up for this, I'm half-tempted to actually put my faith in the belief that they ought to be shot at. This is their alternative to the draft? Thanks for posting this.

  23. leftoverking says interesting thing, i have been looking at jobs for artists on line, and the u.s. millitary is recruiting hard for artists' these days. either they need to work on some good ad campaigns, or they know there are a gagillion unemployed artists out there who really need work (does getting your head blown off count as performance art?)

  29. ebuzzmiller says so do we know who powers this download offering? (Musicnet, Napster, Rhapsody, eMusic.....?) whichever that whore is, they should be boycotted. there's no way the military negotiated with all the labels and built their own download site, the back end must be somebody else's. anybody know who it is? they need to be embarassed about this.
