Two suns, the the second album from Bat for Lashes recently released and despite my seeing that most reviewers enjoyed this album ladden with duality and all that concepty stuff I have problems. Yes the album has that duality feel but her lyrics aren't amazing and I don't think that's ever been the point with her or at least my reason for liking her. Her mainstay is her voice and the talented backing of her band and that she knows when to just sing by her own lonesome sans much else that some little pieces in the back. I like that the album still has the feel of the last album but she seems to me at least to have embraced the electronic sound a little more than she should have and I think that cuts into some of the sound that made her a success on Fur and Gold. As well as that I don't get the same joy of listening to this album as a whole, there are some great tracks on this but there are some that could be better. Than theres the point that I hate mentioning but ends up playing an important part when I listen to her and that's her voice, to me she sounds or reminds me of Sarah Mclaughlin and I hear that throughout and it detracts from me just subjectively listening and critiquing this album. Yet all and all this is a good second release from Bat for Lashes not sure I'll listen much more or more than a scattered listen here and there but it's okay.
