Britney Fucking Spears

Although I am yet to thoroughly listen to Britney's latest album Circus, I have played the title track, along with "Womanizer", repeatedly since I first heard of them on her heart-wrenching documentary "Britney: for the record" on MTV. No matter what anyone says, I will stand by my opinion that that documentary was well made and well intentioned. It was not a sappy load of bullshit, as some may call it. It was an utterly raw display of a pop stars daily struggles, in order that the public may empathize with her insanity.I do believe she's a little manic, but I also believe her stardom lead her to be this way.
Since I heard these tracks I have been attempting to solve the baffling question, how does she do it? How is it that Britney Spears can put out a song with an anything but unique electronic background amongst her mousy voice, singing weak lyrics, and everyone (including me) loves it? And just to add the cherry on top, she is not involved in any of the writing (musical, lyrical) of these tracks, and everyone knows it. How is it that I cannot respect her as a musician of any kind, but I can appreciate her as a popstar and go the extent of owning her music? When did popstarstardom become a honorable profession in life?
After furiously pondering this predicament, I've come to the conclusion that Britney Spears is an excellent performer and that is why I can appreciate her. Although she does not write her music, she owns it when she performs. Her songs are unexpectedly addicting, and it's that squeaky voice of hers beautifully embellishing those electronic beats that makes them that way. Although she may take long breaks from her career to have a mental breakdown or two, we can allow them, because Britney Spears is the queen of pop.
