Swedish electro-rockers The Knife first came to my attention via José Gonzalez' cover of their 2005 single "Heartbeats" - much like a big chunk of the rest of the world.Their first album, which totally flew under my radar, is not really genre breaking (electro-pop from Ladytron, Angie Reed and Peaches are all notable) but is a fine piece of 80's retro and electronic production. Vocalist Karin Dreijer evokes Kate Bush and Cyndi Lauper simultaneously, with production on tracks like "Reindeer", "High School Poem" and "Kino" crossing most electronic boundaries, delivering the best of deep, crunchy and playful beats.

  1. LadyC says Just got there full album. Very 80's retro, it's seems alright so far but I think I need some time to really see if it's better beyond the few tracks I heard initially.
