Hi. Remember me?

Artist:

Album:

Track:
My name is Julia. You might remember me, I used to post here, and I was, dare I say, a little popular. People were often bored enough to comment on my posts, at any rate. They were even deluded into featuring me in the MOG Gazette. Alas, that clearly meant nothing to me, as I disappeared into a haze of school and pretty much everything else except MOG. Not that that's an excuse, it's a terrible one either way.
So, other than failing epically at mogging in every way possible, here's what I've been up to:
-went to washington dc with a school group to see the inauguration
- came to terms with the fact that I will never be as cool as karen o
- realized that i really hate animal collective
- gotten into an argument with a very good friend (over facebook no less...god, i am such a teenager -.- ) about why arctic monkeys are infinitely better than animal collective
- wondered why i am friends with a person who fails to recognize talent and all around greatness of aforementioned arctic monkeys
- have now read three william faulkner books in three years of high school, and now know that he is one of my least favorite people ever
- gotten a new job
- enjoyed unseasonably warm weather, only to learn that the rest of the country was enveloped in snow. and learned that this week is going to be cold again.
- lurked on mog more than any normal person should
- completely fallen in love with white lies debut album
- fallen even more in love with franz ferdinand than i was before
- went to a flogging molly concert and saw more people doing jigs than i had ever hoped or dreamed
... among other things that i cannot think of. So, as self-prescribed penance, I'm embarking on Part Two of my weeklong series of posting a song of a band I have found while browsing the inifinite highways of the internet. It's hard to keep track of everything new these days, so hopefully I can land myself back in your lovely good graces by opening your eyes to some (hopefully) new stuff. Deal?
The first entry comes by way of Liam Finn. His father, Neil Finn, may already be familiar to you because of his work with Crowded House, but Liam's work stands on its own. His critically acclaimed debut, I'll Be Lightning, hit Stateside in early 2008. Now might be a good time to hit that red button. A quick point of reference might be Elliott Smith; Liam clearly draws from love of the Beatles and sings in a high tenor and beautifully harmonizes. Either way, the young Finn shows a lot of promise.

And in case you wanted to refresh your memory on my last Week of Posting for Penance:

Welcome back. :) Really nice you went to Washington, and congrats with the new job!
And agree on Franz Ferdinand, disagree on Arctic Monkeys, and agree on Animal Collective. :P
thanks and thanks! I wasn't really expecting to go, it was really lucky a spot had opened up and the prices had dropped enough that i could afford to go. as for the job, well, it'll get me enough money to last til college starts, haha.
as for animal collective, does that mean you like them? it's perfectly alright with me if you do, i've just been trying to figure out why i am pretty much the only person who their music leaves cold.
glad to see you came back, no need to explain, just glad to see you around
Don't feel bad; no one will ever be as cool as Karen O. ;)
Rawkkiddoh - Thank you, and i promise i will be around for a long time. sporadic posting ends now! -knock on wood-
Dale - I know, i try not to take it too personally. but a girl can hope right?
Hope springs eternal. Or something like that.
And please don't get me started on White Lies. :)
Nice to see you again! Liam is certainly a chip off his dad, isn't he? At first I thought it was Neil, it being very early and me not really focussing on the small print yet. I shall have to look for his album.
Woo-hoo to Liam and Neil - and Tim, too! Sometimes it's in the blood. As for Animal Collective, I've got a kind of mezzo-mezzo reaction to them. (My favorable opinions of FF and the Monkeys are well documented.) Oh yeah. Welcome back. When I saw you on a recent thread, I thought it was business as usual. So much for my lauded powers of observation.
"came to terms with the fact that I will never be as cool as karen o", that's alright, it also means that you will also never be as crazy {trust me, that's a good thing).
"gotten into an argument with a very good friend (over facebook no less...god, i am such a teenager -.- ) about why arctic monkeys are infinitely better than animal collective" he/she made you debate the obvious. Block, report, delete.
Welcome back! :)
Dale - Who knows, you may have just inspired my next post :P
Jonh- Thank you kindly! Don't know much about his dad to be honest, but talent clearly runs in the family.
Mike - Hahaha, it's okay. it will be business again as usual hopefully. I've still been searching (in vain) for someone to explain what the appeal of animal collective is... oh well. my taste hasn't suffered for it.
anna - yes, i suppose you're right. and my friend and i have tried to put the whole argument behind us, which means completely ignoring that it ever happened. i'm a pacifist, what can i say :D
