The Boondocks and the day when T.R.O.Y. was solved...

Posted over 4 years ago
Today (no pun intended)I figured I'd reminisce (pun intended) back to when I was watching episode 12 of the fabled *Boondocks* series on cartoon network. Personally, I'd always been a fan of Aaron Magruder and I loved the animated twist on the comic strip. Matter of fact, I'm still waiting to see if anything new is going to come of it. What I was prepared for was to be entertained and "Riley learns to paint" didn't disappoint. What I wasn't prepared for is what you'll find here at about the 3 minute mark during the car chase.....That's when I realized that one of the most famous sampled hooks in hip hop (T.R.O.Y. by Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth) actually came from this guyTom Scott...Who, at 19 mind you, cut his first album and along with it, the track entitled, *Today*. Bingo! Now it made complete sense! No wonder it sounded a bit dated->it was recorded in 67' but I still dig its charm none the less. So, Without further adieu, here it is!J-

  2. Mike the Knife says Good catch, Jshua. And I'm still pissed at Magruder for bailing on the strip. BTW, you DO know that "Today" is a cover. The original is the friggin' bee-you-ti-ful Jefferson Airplane ballad from their crucial album Surrealistic Pillow.

  3. Jshua says Actually no, I didn't know about Jefferson Airplane... Funny thing though, as soon as I read your comment about the song being a cover, my eyes bugged out and I said "no waaaay" at the top of my lungs.. Thanx for the heads up!
