Please forgive me if I'm a bit inaccurate because the stories vary on this particular piece of legend, but here goes......
Once upon a time in the land of Cincinatti, there were 2 brothers known as Collins (Catfish and Bootsy, that is). From a tender age, it was discovered that they not only had a knack for playing great soul music in their band (The Pacesetters) but they also possessed an uncanny ablility to give up the very thing that was considered to be a BAD WORD.
As it would happen, word eventually traveled to a far away land (known as Augusta GA.) and reached the ear of THE GODFATHER. Who, because he couldn't stand himself while doing the popcorn and feeling good in a man man man's world, made yon pilgrimage to check out the badass young minstels.
You see THE GODFATHER was none too pleased with his current assembly of minstrels who had actively sought to acquire more and more of his riches.
So what did THE GODFATHER do?
He sacked his old crew of merry men and (in return)replaced them with The Pacesetters who magically transformed into The JB's! Whoopie!

After 3 years, countless tours and many countries around yon globe, the JB's (Pacesetters) were a phenomenon worthy of legend. Yet, young Bootsy (who meanwhile had acquired a taste for the Acid potion) would some time clash with THE GODFATHER to dire results.
One night, unknown to THE GODFATHER, Young Bootsy had a little too much of aforementioned poition and believed that he had conjured up spirits!
While playing on stage!
Gasp!
The JB's were sacked! and dispatched back to the kindom of Cincinatti to wallow in despair...
Now, the once JB's (former Pacesetter's if you're keeping score)transformed again into HOUSEGUEST and cut this here track..
Sooooo.... What happen to Houseguest you say?!
Verily I say to thee...
King George "chief cokehead" Clinton of the Parliafunadelicment Thang dispatched his flying saucer to beam them aboard the Mothership and...
You know the rest...

Have a wonderful holy day weekend y'all!!

For those of you who are familliar with The Roots and have been to one of their concerts lately, you'd notice that they are bolstered by a great brass section known as Brass Heaven. Jeff Bradshaw (trombone) is the leader of the bunch and if you would ever close your eyes and simply listen to him play you'd swear that its eerie how well he can do the legendary Fred Wesley.
Case in point: Here's one off of Jeff's Bone Deep solo album that's a very unique take on James Brown's Make it Funky.
The crazy cat singing over this joint is the one and only Bilal.
The wonderful thing about this track is that the longer the song goes, the better it gets! By the end of the song when Bilal is singing "I want a sugar cheeze steak!", you might find yourself not only jamming but cracking up at the same time.
Check it out..
Oh by the way, here's Brass Heaven with ?uestlove on the drums doing a great version of Gimmie some more..

That Bilal album was criminally overlooked; and what is he doing now?
When its a beautiful sunny day like today, this song always manages to creep into my cranium and adds a higher vibration to my day to day. Reflecting back over the years, I've come to have a deep appreciation for Bob and the oh so many classics he penned. Natty Dread is one of those songs that you just can't help but to vibe on and when you do the vibe sticks with you.
Know what I mean?
I do believe this version is kinda rare, so I hope you enjoy it......
Here's something else I've never seen before...
How about you?

Hadn't seen..A tight little version..There's no time that isn't Bob time, is there? Although when I started DJ'ing at a radio sation in the USVI, they only had 2 rules: Nothing from Bob's-Legend or Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hits was to be played. Considering how often you are forced to listen to those records, even the worthwhile songs can get tiresome. Not that I'm even trying to compare those 2 artists/albums, but down in St. Thomas they are ubiquitous in the tourist spots. Not that having your music symbolize the beauty, peace, and calm of the Caribbean is a bad thing, but please, can we hear something different. Thanks for pointing out how much more there is to Bob. And there is plenty.
That version of Natty Dread was recorded at a club called The Quiet Knight in Chicago, '75. I love that concert, used to have it until it was ripped off. Bob Marley is unlike any other musician - in my eyes. He was fundamentally a simple man, yet he wrote some of the most intelligent lyrics I've ever heard. As he said "Me don't have education, me have inspiration. If I was educated I would be a damn fool." I was only 5 years old when he died, but God do I miss him. This video on youtube is the rarest thing I've come across yet online regarding Bob:

I hope you enjoy! Dave
@Cody--Its all good bro! I have the same delima at times but I just can't (and don't want to) get away from his music..
@9Mile--Thanx for filling me in! I've got a couple of tunes from that concert but the vibe is excellent! Also, I've never seen that youtube vid before Double Thanx!

Sounds pretty goddamn accurate to me! Nice one.
Great post. One of the best concerts I ever saw was Parliament, right after Rick James got out of jail. Not only did the Mothership land, but R.J. came out and got down...
Great story J.
