First of all, thanks to everyone who responded to the initial idea I posted a few days ago. Your suggestions were much appreciated.
The goal of this post is to produce the ultimate list of the best/favourite albums of 2006, according to the MOG community. We will not be producing a winner or a top ten however. The process is a simple one, and works in a similar way to the Mog 501:
1. The process begins tonight and finishes at 12PM EST on the 8th December. Any nomination made after this will not count
2. One Mogger, One nomination.
3. The list is unordered.
4. The album nominated must have been officially released between 1st January 2006 and 1st December 2006. This means you can't nominate the new Shins LP you got off bit torrent, nor can you nominate an album from 1975, just because you discovered it this year.
5. The album nominated must be an album. It must have at least 7 tracks. Live albums and Compilations (including complied soundtracks and Greatest Hits albums are ineligible).
6. The list is based on personal tastes, there is to be no critiscism of other people's choices. Any negative comments will result in your nomination being removed from the list.
So, thanks in advance for your participation, and a particular thanks to Dale who once again is fulfilling the role of the Access-Master.

Cool, I'll have to do some thinking.
i was thinking about nominating joanna newsom's "Ys" but it's only 5 tracks? but it's a full 55:41 long. are there exceptions to the rule?
My, I have no idea what will I nominate. None whatsover. Not even a foggy one.
Ok, I'll revise the rule: 7 songs or more than 40 minutes worth of material. The 7 songs was just to avoid the "Is an EP acceptable" debate.
Once again i'll probably nominate an album no-one else has listened to. But you know what? That's okay. Because I love it and listen to it all the time:
Nobody and Mystic Chords of Memory: "Tree-Colored See."
How shall we verify official release date? I used allmusic.com, but if you have a preferred source, I'm open to it. With that in mind ... blast it, And The Glass Handed Kites was released October 2005.
Ok, after serious pondering & swimming in a sea of doubt, I nominate Placebo - Meds.
frankie-fake, Ys is a full-length album.
Allmusic's would be my top choice for sorting out release dates, we could always double check using band websites.
"What kind of fuckery is this?"
My album of the year, and perhaps for many, many more to come...
Amy Winehouse: Back To Black
The finest album of the year is Donuts by J Dilla. Released on his 32nd birthday, February 7, 2006.
Ok, in case ya missed this -
Emily Haines - Knives Don't Have Your Back
The release date for the album I nominated above is March 2, 2006.
What if an album was released elsewhere earlier, but just reached the shores of your preferred country in 2006? Or albums that haven't even been released in your country?
Kid hits the old conundrum. Many albums released in UK or elsewhere in Europe in year N are often released in the US (if ever) in year N+1. This year, Serena-Maneesh is just one example. My preference would be to go with the original release date, no matter where that occurred. But the issue is something to discuss and decide.
I think I'd side with chainsaw on this one...the rule applies to the original release date, whatever country that is in.
You're splitting hairs, Moggers! If said album came out in your territory within the dates provided, just bloody go for it!
Here in the UK, we tire of these sort of arguments when it comes to movies. Several big flicks are released in a handful of screens in the US in late December (a) to catch the Christmas traffic, and (b) to qualify for the upcoming Oscars. The film in question may not reach Britain until the following February or March, and therefore ends up qualifying for the Baftas the year after it's triumphed/failed at the Academy Awards.
Don't fret about release dates too much, it's not what's important. Interestingly, though, The Clash album London Calling was released in the UK in December 79, and in the US in January 80. I have since seen it top polls for both Best Album Of The 70s and Best Album Of The 80s.
Does either really matter? No, because it's now 2006 and it still sounds fuckin' great.
And that, my friends, is the bottom line.
Amen Terry!
My hat's in the ring...
Secret Machines: Ten Silver Drops
I'm going to go with Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
My vote: The Lemonheads (S/T)
Josh Ritter - Animal Years.
It still tickles me that the term "album" needs to be so carefully explained and defined - on a website for MUSIC LOVERS . Good god! Imagine trying to explain vinyl records or 8-track tapes...
Ben Harper - Both Sides of the Gun
That's it, I'm done waiting.
We Are Scientists - With Love And Squalor
Released 10 Jan 2006
Brazilian Girls, "Talk To La Bomb"
Show Your Bones - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I realise that this band is probably a flash in the pan, but I think that the album is great fun and I love that they don't take themselves too seriously. I also love that they mock celebrity.
It's CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy.
I'm surprised CSS didn't come up sooner, actually. Good call, Helen.
My Chemical Romance, "The Black Parade"
Helen has just reminded me, I need to throw my hat into the ring before all the good ones have already been picked:
The Fratellis - Costello Music
Kevin Federline - Playing with Fire
M. Ward "Post War"
OK, I'm putting it in, and you can't change it.
One MOGger, one vote, wise guy.
MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Umm, just to be clear, my previous comment is for Blair, not Dave.
my vote goes to....
Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up, I Am Dreaming
You can keep it it...i can't pick one album...i am horrible at making lists...but I bet that is the funnest record to listen to and play musical Mystery Science Theater 3000 with a couple of friends and some drinks...plus K-Fed has has a bad month
Man Man - "Six Demon Bag."
damn. i wanted to put "Diamond Nights"-Popsicle album but it was 2005.
i feel like i should add the Gorillaz or Millionaire but same problem......
damn-
ok. "Twilight Singers"-------'Powder Burns' March 16, 2006 ( i happened to be in Europe at the time! score!)Thanks Joxley and Dale!
zmiami44 already picked my favourite so I'll go with my 2nd fave...
Trials of Van Occupanther - Midlake
Bullet For My Valentine-The Poison
It's won an amazing amount of awards in the UK and the US.
Check it out.
Priestess - Hello Master
Envelopes - Demon
I am going with Howlin' Rain - S/T (Birdman)
Beck--The Information
Surprised this wasn't chosen yet - Neil Young - Living With War (one of the best protest albums ever!)
TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
One vote per mogger.
No problemo.
'Happiness and Disaster' by Stabilo.
release date March 21/06
It was a pretty good year and I feel in love with a lot of albums and some have already been mentioned.
However, no album inspired my family to buy 4 copies of it. ;)
Bob Dylan's Modern Times
decisions decisions - torn between Liars Drum's Not Dead, and Muse Black Holes and Revelations - I'll go with Muse, since I have listened to it more. I have more respect, in an artistic way, for Liars and TV on the Radio, but I have enjoyed the Muse more, so that's my pick
Self titled, CSS . :)
Out of left field, I'm gonna go with Grizzly Bear - Yellow House.
Frog Holler - Haywire
Wait, but CSS was already nominated mybluewristband. Or did they come out with two albums this year and I missed it?
Ok...um...I've got two I'm debating over...now three. However, I think my personal favorite of the year has been Rx Bandits "...And The Battle Begun". Pretty sure I've listened to that more than the other two I'm thinking of.
Neko Case, _Fox Confessor Brings the Flood_
Oh... am I confused...
Each person only gets to choose one album and no one can have the same one?
Only nominations? No votes? Just one really long list?
?
Well... I don't feel like reading 55 comments, so I'll go with self-titled LP by Prototypes as a back up...? Though... it's technically the compliation of two albums released before 2006.
And if someone "nominated" that already, I give up.
My Turn!

I'm voting for the new Jeremy Enigk album.. that man can do no wrong...
this list sucks. put ryan adams on there. "cold roses" and "jacksonville city lights"
Both albums were released in 2005, so no dice, Smurtis.
I also put The Crane Wife - The Decemberists
I got it. :)
thanks
Album of the Year: Arctic Monkeys - "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not"
Single of the Year: Bonnie "Prince" Billy - "Strange Form of Life"
J Dilla - "Donuts"
5:55- Charlotte Gainsbourg
Breaking Benjamin - Phobia
Tim Hecker - Harmony in Ultraviolet (kranky records)
Absolutely without a doubt. Nice idea for a mog post, too. I'm wondering if mog should have some built in "best of" compiler widget that scans the entire network...
Smurtis SUX
so mine is BLACK STONE CHERRY
cause i'm drunk and it is playing
Yeah fuck it I'm with CSS
Kelly Stoltz - Below the Branches (Sub Pop)
Now you see, I would say Editors; 'In the Back Room' because in was officially released in North America during April 2006 even though we had it Europe, summer 2005.
So if can't have that, it has to be; The Veils-Nux Vomica
Damien RIce - 9
Mr. Blotto / Barlow Shanghai
you can listen to it here
(although Tom Wait's Orphans is getting further up on my list the more I listen to it...)... and Dylan's Modern Times, and Van Morrison's Pay the Devil, and, and, and,......
I thought this was going to be an easy choice for me. But some of my absolute favs put stuff out this year..So I'm gonna have to go with which band I saw the most this year supporting a new album..Built to Spills (even though it wasnt even close to their personal best) You in Reverse. I will say I am way way behind on music catching up here in 2006.
Wayne 'The Train' Hancock-TULSA

Kevin Federline? Ooookay.
I nominate: Tahiti 80 - Fosbury.
Johnny Cash-American V: A Hundred Highways
Thanks Dale Dale Bo Bale :)
When I saw this post, my top 3 favourite albums of the year imediately popped into my head. I have managed to chose my favourite...though it wasn't easy. Hikaru Utada is my favourite singer so my allegiance does fall with Ultra Blue but....I think my favourite album of the year is:
Ayumi Hamasaki - (miss)understood
I know it's not the most credible choice, but - along with Ultra Blue - it's the best pop album of the year. Packed full of great pop/rock tunes and gorgeous ballads (one co-composed by Ayumi herself). I choose this album because I remember when I first got it, I would be dying to get home from work just so I could listen to it again and watch all the great music videos from it.
Sparks - Hello Young Lovers.
It caused me to be glared at by a French nun while I was humming "As I sit down to play the organ at Notre Dame Cathedral" while I was walking round, well, Notre Dame Cathedral.
wow, i'm completely surprised by ll the CSS love, i think their fun and all, it was a short faze, but i really think that album is just mediocre at best, hmm, i guess it's a personal thing, anyway my two obvious ones have been taken curse you man man, decemberists liking folk, stealling all the goodun's, i'll be back for my vote after some hard deliberation
I'm going to vote for Damien Rice's "9"
Sorry but that one's already been taken.
Helpful hint: use "Control + F" to search the page before posting.
Deadboy & The Elephantmen - We Are Night Sky
Margot and the Nuclear So and So's "The Dust of Retreat". Definitely
