The Hoosiers

Look at them with their catchy choruses, spikey guitars, fun videos and Topman Cardigans...frankly it's Brit Pop by numbers..but I just don't care when it sounds this good.

  1. kat3260 says That little intro bit "Truth be told, truth be told" sounds very similar to The Turtles "Happy Together"

  4. 1234chainsaw says These guys look totally like '70s power-poppers, and the beat sounds like that, too.

  5. 1234chainsaw says Btw, what's up with the band name? A Hoosier is someone from the state of Indiana and, with due apologies to Mike, not many musical luminaries hail from there.

  6. Joxley says I think this should explain it: _According to their band biography, Alfonso and Irwin spent some time in the United States, encouraged by their chemistry teacher, in an attempt to broaden their horizons. The pair won themselves a football scholarship at the University of Indianapolis despite a reputed claim to be 'allergic to running'. Having gathered enough material to compile an album, Alfonso and Irwin returned to London where they met Martin Skarendahl, a Swedish ex-fireman who was then working as a recording studio engineer._

  7. dermahrk says Joxley, I love the new avatar. You lost the hat and now look like a very colorful terrorist. There's a subcontext to the video you might not be aware of. Ray Harryhausen was a special-effects wizard who populated 1950s and 1960s movies with his claymation figures and monsters, one of which was a cyclopean lizard-thing similar to what you see here (which I think was in one of his Sinbad features). Not sure if that is what the song is about, but it definitely had a big influence on the video maker. Yes, the Turtles-like intro occurred to me too. I have to say I REALLY like this. Bouncy, poppy, the lead singer has a great falsetto. By-the-numbers? What is this, "guilty pleasure" time? Music is here to enjoy, no matter what. They are going on my "To be investigated" list fer sure.

  8. dermahrk says Since they are pretty much powerpop, it is also possible that they were inspired by Richard X. Heyman's pop masterpiece "Hoosier". Just a thought.
