Hiding under the Sunday Covers

Posted about 2 years ago

Hmph.

Been a while since I checked in around these parts. Seems like all my posts begin that way now. But still I cling to this online presence. Still I drop in when I need a bit of space and solace. And I definitely need that right now.

Exams start in 4 days.

And these are Cambridge exams. And nowhere does exams like Cambridge. Panic and fear rule the term. Everyone becomes distant, distracted. Disturbed. Even menial tasks are seen as too much of a timesuck. Before long you a recycling underwear and sporting a healthy beard. And that counts as bearing up well. At least you are not one of the poor sods on suicide watch. Believe me, it happens.

Still with less than a week to go, a sort of unnerving calm descends. Too many hours have already been wasted. The enormity of the task keeps rising, but you just keep trying to rationalise - everyone else makes it through. Yet at times, you still want to pretend it isn't happening. Pretend you still have weeks to go... or pretend its already summer and you can drink and have fun once more. OR start panicking about what the hell you'll be doing this time next year when you are cast out into the big bad world. And just pray that the tunes will get you through.

Good to hear from you Joxley.  My instinct tells me you'll do fine.  If you aren't prepared by now...no amount of cramming....

........anyway, losing yourself in good music can be theraputic at times like these....if you can shut off the nagging whirlwind of fractured thoughts & vague anxieties & float away on a favored tune.......the mind can unknot & relax....let the spirit rule for a while.

Good luck with the exams mate! Hope you'll do well. Exams are always a terror, glad those days of non-stop learning are in the past for me. :)

that was great. Solo piano just does something to me. Good luck on exams. I too think you'll do just fine- you seem like a real smart chap.

We'll try to keep putting out tunes you can take refuge in, whenever you want to drop in!

Good to hear from you Joxley. Best wishes on the academic ordeal or right of passage, or what ever it is. Long long ago, I failed my first attempt at California's notoriously difficult bar exam (three days of essays with a leavening of multiple choice) but passed the next attempt easily.

Thanks for the good vibes guys. I guess it's just that University exams are such a step up from school - back in the day anything less than 80% was really bad. Now 70% is a good score. I suppose stateside you say something about moving up from the little leagues or something. Although Bob, you did just remind me that after these I have next year's finals and then (on the current plan) two years of Law School to make it though....
