"I ought to apologize for inquiring," she said. "It is not a question that we ask one another nowadays; but I have read that in your day, even among the cultured class, there were some who did not care for music.""You must remember, in excuse," I said, "that we had some rather absurd kinds of music.""Yes," she said, "I know that; I am afraid I should not have fancied it all myself. Would you like to hear some of ours now, Mr. West?""??Looking Backwards?? by Edward Bellamy (1888) - Ch. 11":http://www.sacred-texts.com/utopia/lb/lb12.htmhttp://www.sacred-texts.com/utopia/lb/lb12.htm

  1. Paul Avion says I def have to check this out; also the Latifah. I've recently (well, not that recently; it's been awhile) gotten into Pan-African music and food. Check out Ngoma on Wilshire if you haven't been; it's a little third world, which is what makes it so great. Not McAfrican atmosphere; more of a real African restaurant vibe.

  2. Paul Avion says also, this "Tales of the Future" track is rather amazing. It reminds me a bit a flamenco duet called "Lola y Manuel," a cassette that my father and I picked up when we were living in Granada. It was a mix of flamenco and a sort of gypsy chanting with some electric guitars. The best track was called "Todo Es De Color"; it had a great melody and much like this track amazing vox, . Wish I knew where to get ahold of a copy. Bye
