How Do You Spell Funk?

Posted over 2 years ago
French director Jean Luc Godard said there's no such thing as being ahead of your time. It's just that everyone else is behind. Betty Mabry aka Betty Davis was way on time. She had the vision to expose her then husband Miles Davis to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, which led to Bitches Brew and that mess. Here, Betty tells you how she spells f-u-n-k.

  10. ivylander says It's funny, I was listening to Miles's "Filles de Kilimanjaro" just last week. My favorite track on it is "Mademoiselle Mabry," named, of course, for Betty. The mellow, post-coital feel of it couldn' be farther from - or, perhaps, is the flip side of - her own music.
