The New Pretenders Music Keeps Getting Better

I'm being completely seduced by the new Pretenders album. With one track being given away each week, there's time to really get inside each one before the next one drops. It helps that it's a great album.
Chrissie's voice is intimate and confessional. She can belt a rocker when she wants, but the two really brilliant songs for me are the one up above and another called "The Maker Of Nothing", where she sounds like an old friend opening the door to some initimate thoughts and feelings.
The two other notable elements are some beautiful and biting guitar work and a lovely spacious production that lets everything breathe. I'm guessing that it's played in a room with some good old fashioned recording techniques: they sound like a band.

Anna - Isn't it though?! I just love the part in the song before the middle-rant where she suddenly goes high. And then after the rant, the way she slides from hard to very intimate in a beat. A true master at work.
Her voice hasn't changed...in what....how many years?

a friend of mine did a bunch of engineering with Chrissie recently and what he told me was quite cool. there was always a live vocal mic when she was in the studio and they were in record mode whenever she was in the building so if she felt like singing anything they'd never miss it. as producers, we know the golden rule is to never miss a take, but apparently this was taken to the next level. he said she'd just ramble over to it when she was feeling something and sing. it shows on this stuff, eh?
That's the Neil Young method too. Ever since a blinding version of Mr. Soul was missed back in Buffalo Springfield days, the tape just rolls whenever he's in the room. A friend who engineered with him for many years was fairly aghast at the amount of tape that was effectively wasted.
What's exciting about Chrissie's vocals is that they do, indeed, sound as though she just walked up to the mic and opened her mouth. Any idea who's producing?

Like a twelve string ringing i can hear "Kid" and "TalkOfTheTown" in my head now...JIm Keltner on drums for the recordings,Martin Chambers back by now apparently.
Chrissie's vocals are one of the few that truly captures the honesty of lyrical content in a song. Even on the songs that she didn't write like "Human". It doesn't matter if it's a slow melodic piece or an burnin' uptempo rocker. She delievers every time. These new songs are fantastic.

Steve Bing is actually the producer, but Don Smith had a lot to do with it as the engineer.
Jonh, another solid track off what looks to be an incredible album. I have to say she has one of the sexiest voices in music period
The Beatles also kept the tapes running... as did Jimi... it is really a good idea for anyone that drips creativity...
I love Chrissie's voice - it never changes.
On the other hand, Joni's voice is so soulful rich now, sometimes change is good.
