The Pretenders Giving Away Their New Album

The Pretenders are giving away their new album one track per week. It's worth getting. Chrissie Hynde has never sung in a way to strain her voice and it's still in excellent condition. The band behind her play with vim, verve and velocity. Most important, her songwriting is in top form.
Back in 1976, the anecdote about Chrissie was that she lived on £10 a week in an empty room with a matress and a guitar, writing songs and staying away from the punk scene germinating in basements around town. When the first album dropped in 1980, it was a revealtion to hear what she'd been composing. The years had been well spent.
The three tracks released so far have the same feel as that first rush. Each one is different in tone and feel; one is a rocker (see the red button), one is the strummed light fantastic ("The Maker of Nothing") and on this week's release she hits a high note that's breath-taking. Each track is being released on a different site so you will have to do some work, but it's all listed (or was) on the band's site.

To think that she was almost Mrs. Vicious.
That was a tight song!
Thank you for letting us know, Jonh.
I also like the one track per week concept, works like honey to a bear.
looks like another bookmark for my explorer page.........now I just have to remember to head over each week
She certainly picked the right guitarist for this one. That she could still sound so young, fast and hungry renews my faith in her. Ten or fifteen years ago a friend played a solo album of hers that was great, to me at least who hadn't checked out the Pretenders up to then.
Oops. I didn't realize this track was the Pretenders and not Hynde going solo.
Chrissie's a rock icon in my book and it's always great to hear new stuff. She's the epitome of a total rock chick, but when she went electronic singing "State of Independence" on the Moodfood album, it also showed someone that can have fun in a variety of musical directions and inspired me to do my Altered States disk.
Last week, when i was working with Moby, the engineer had just finished working with Chrissie and he was beaming about it. He told me that they were "in record" from the second she got into the building. When the mood was right for a particular song, she'd start singing it immediately and you'd better not miss it. That was great to hear, because i've never been a fan of artists describing their demos and disks as "good, but you should see us live". Her energy shows on this track.
OH JONH! Thank you for this! Her voice does sound divine!
just listened...wow, those boots are made for rockin'! go chrissie!
absolute quality tuneage
